DESCRIPTION:Join renowned international guest speakers Bayo Akomolafe\, Mary Jayne Rust\, and Phoenix Smith for an Ecosystemic Psychotherapy workshop\, facilitated by Professor Hannah Sherbersky and Roger Duncan on 22nd October 2026. \nIt is now impossible to ignore the fact\, that the world is rapidly awakening to the full systemic impact of the emerging global ecological crisis\, which is having a devastating effect on the ecosystems of the earth as well as human mental health and social stability. \nThe ecological crisis has coincided with a painful awakening to the legacy of the social and environmental destruction resulting from a colonial world view of nature and culture. These events now demand a radical and deep adaption of our world view. It is clear we are now facing not only an ecological break down\, but also a narrative collapse\, a breakdown in how to make sense of this process. \nThis course is an invitation to explore a radically reimagined ecological approach to psychotherapy for the task of supporting future generations to become generative\, altruist\, ecologically and socially integrated adults\, in a world that’s lost its mind. \nBayo Akomolafe will be leading a workshop on Reimagining Nature and Mental Health. Mary-Jayne Rust will be leading a workshop on moving Towards an Ecopsychotherapy. \nPhoenix Smith will be leading a workshop on When Systems Fall Apart: A Liberation Ecotherapy™ Framework to support Collective Action. As our social\, health\, and environmental systems face increasing challenges\, what helps communities thrive? This talk introduces Liberation Ecotherapy™ as a framework for collective healing\, resilience\, and ecological connection\, grounded in decades of public health and community care practice. \nMary-Jayne Rust is a psychotherapist with 40 years’ experience\, trained in art therapy\, feminist psychotherapy\, and Jungian analysis. Inspired by journeys to Ladakh in the 1990s\, she became a pioneer in ecopsychology\, exploring its cultural\, economic\, and spiritual roots. Her books include Towards an Ecopsychotherapy (2019) and Vital Signs (2011). Passionate about wild swimming\, she now lives in North London\, working beside ancient woodland in her indoor and outdoor practice. \nBayo Akomolafe (Ph.D.)\, rooted with the Yoruba people in a more-than-human world\, is the father to Alethea and Kyah\, the grateful life-partner to EJ\, son and brother. He is a widely celebrated international speaker\, posthumanist thinker\, poet\, teacher\, self-styled ‘trans-public’ intellectual\, essayist\, and currently the Hubert Humphrey Distinguished Professor of American Studies in Macalester College\, Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, USA (August 2025). Bayo is the host teacher at Dancing with Mountains\, an educational consultation and the visionary founder of The Emergence Network\, a planet-wide networking project and inquiry at the edges of the Anthropocene. \nPhoenix Smith is a diviner and Elder Initiated in the Earth-honouring Lucumí Afro-Cuban tradition. They offer eco-spiritual mentorship grounded in 20+ years of community practice. She holds an MSW from Howard University\, an Ecotherapy graduate certificate\, and is training in EMDR. With 20+ years in U.S. public health managing HIV clinics and advancing health equity\, she has practiced Ecotherapy since 2012 with a focus on collective care for BIPOC\, LGBTQ\, immigrant\, and underserved communities. She created Liberation Ecotherapy®\, rooted in healing justice\, and founded the Alliance for Ecotherapy & Social Justice in 2020. DESCRIPTION:This intensive 4 half-day training provides an overview of the Family Therapy for Eating Disorders model (FT-AN)\, often referred to as the Maudsley Approach. This treatment model places strong emphasis on family working and involvement\, and supports the family to take a more active role in finding ways to overcome their child’s difficulties. The course also provides an understanding of other disordered eating diagnoses including Bulimia Nervosa. \nThis training course is suitable for clinical staff working within a multi-disciplinary CYP team working directly with young people with diagnosed eating disorders and disordered eating\, including Nurses\, Psychologists\, Family Therapist\, Psychiatrists\, Dieticians and Paediatricians for example.   \nTraining will be held via Zoom from 09:00am – 13:00pm on Tuesday 27th October & Thursday 29th October and Tuesday 3rd November & Thursday 5th November. \nThe training course will be delivered by Mark Rivett & Thomas Reid \nAims  \n\nTo introduce the research base and theoretical underpinning of the Maudsley approach and support theory to practice understanding. DESCRIPTION:In an increasingly digital world\, therapists are discovering innovative ways to create accessible and engaging services for children\, young people and families. Digital tools—including digital sandtrays and videogames—offer new opportunities to connect with clients in meaningful ways\, supporting therapeutic work in both face-to-face and online settings. This interactive course explores how these tools can be integrated into practice to enhance engagement and therapeutic outcomes.  \nTeaching will be delivered by Ellie Finch\, MA MBACP (Accred)\, who specialises in working with neurodivergent clients and parents and siblings of children with disabilities and complex medical conditions. She has a worked in a range of settings including CAMHS\, schools\, private practice\, and local and national charities (including Relate\, The Children’s Society and ChildLine). She has developed an innovative online service engaging children in counselling through videogames\, such as Minecraft\, and other digital tools. \nThis training is designed for systemic practitioners and family therapists. SUMMARY:Cedar Create | Eco-Systemic Psychotherapy Workshops | The New Animism: Respecting a Living World
DESCRIPTION:Join guest speaker Andy Letcher for an Ecosystemic Psychotherapy workshop on 26th November 2026. \nAn old idea of animism persists as people try and find new ways to engage with the nonhuman\, and yet this old animism was born out of anthropology’s colonial past in the 19th century. Subsequently it was dismissed by scholars for almost a century until animism came to be revisited by a new generation of anthropologists around the turn of the millennium. We can now define animism as ‘the view that sees the world as full of persons\, only some of whom are human\, but all of whom are worthy of respect’. We will examine this powerful shift of attention and what it means for us today as we live with the ongoing ecological catastrophe. We will also play with some practical ways to learn to be better animists and will discuss along the way the importance of folklore\, seasonal ritual\, the role of psychedelics\, and the delicate art of paying attention to the world about us. \nDr Andy Letcher is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter\, where he is programme director for the online and in-person MSCs in Psychedelics: Mind\, Medicine\, Culture. Prior to joining Exeter\, he was Senior Lecturer at Schumacher College where he devised and ran the MA Engaged Ecology. He is the author of Shroom: A Cultural History of the Magic Mushroom and conducts research into contemporary animism\, psychedelic spiritualities\, especially the use of psychedelics within contemporary Paganism and the surprising revival of interest in the fly agaric mushroom. \nThis workshop will be held in-person at Washington Singer on 26th November 2026 from 9:30am to 4:30pm. \nPlaces cost £125 per person. It explores the evidence-base\, the rationale and the different stages of sleep interventions within low-intensity\, including the importance of psychoeducation\, stimulus control\, and where clinically indicated\, sleep restriction. Menopause is defined as the point when menstruation has ceased for 12 consecutive months\, typically occurring between ages 45–55. Both phases can bring a range of physical and psychological changes. Crucially\, perimenopause and menopause can significantly affect mental health\, contributing to symptoms such as low mood\, anxiety\, irritability\, poor concentration\, sleep disturbances\, and a reduction in self-esteem. These symptoms may overlap with or worsen existing common mental health problems and are often under-recognised or misattributed. \nThis workshop will overview practical and evidence-based approaches to adapt low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy techniques to better support clients experiencing symptoms associated with the menopause. This approach enables participants to translate learning directly into their clinical work and build confidence in applying evidence-based interventions with diverse client groups. Workshops provide opportunities to learn collaboratively\, share good practice with peers\, and develop confidence in applying new knowledge and skills within everyday clinical work. \nWhether you are seeking to refresh existing skills\, develop expertise in a particular clinical area\, or enhance your reflective practice\, these workshops offer a supportive and stimulating space for professional development. \nOur resiliency is regularly challenged in our personal\, clinical and professional lives. These challenges are especially evident within healthcare roles\, whether this be within the NHS\, third sector or charitable organisations\, given the demands and complexity\, working as part of the mental and physical health workforce. Recognition has resulted in several developments\, including a session focusing on enhancing resiliency incorporated into several training curricula. \nAs a CPD opportunity\, this workshop seeks to consider and develop resiliency practices at an individual and organisation level. Facilitators will support attendees to consider the factors that can support or impede resilience\, from an individual and organisational perspective\, as well as sharing experiences of what is going well and challenges around resilience. At the individual level\, delegates will learn to support a third wave CBT ‘strength based’ low-intensity self-help intervention. Delegates will be supported to consider how they will approach implementing the intervention. Time will be set aside to consider potential barriers to doing this\, to allow an opportunity to share expertise and consider ways to overcome these difficulties. Solutions generated will be discussed with time set aside for questions. Specific focus will be given to how and why practicing self-compassion on an individual level is recommended for clinicians as one possible strategy for enhancing resilience. Throughout the day\, the workshop will be delivered with explicit reference to theory and current evidence-base. Content and approach are also rooted within a working understanding of an organisational setting\, to support delegates to put theory into practice given their individual and service context. \nThis workshop will be held via Zoom on 28/06/2027 between 09:30am to 16:30pm.
